When ALCO upgraded to the RS-3 the New Haven purchased two orders of them, numbering them right after their 17-unit RS-2 fleet. The New Haven RS-3 fleet passed on to Penn Central, Conrail, Amtrak, and several short lines. Only one New Haven RS-3 (529) still exists today and is currently being restored to operating condition at the Railroad Museum of New England in Thomaston, Connecticut.
