Most of these ships had a prow in the shape of a birds beak. The stern section was usually just slightly above the water line. The length of the vessel varied from 60 to 90 ft and usually wasn"t over 200 tons. The lines of this somewhat light vessel were well adapted to ocean going navigation and easily handled the squalls of the Mediterranean. Our replica in the scale of 1:70 is taken from a famous naval study published in France at the end of the 19th cent. The study covered miniatures and paintings made in the year of 1500.
